Callie & Braxton’s Toca Madera Winery Wedding | A California Celebration Full of Emotion, Connection & Joy
There are some wedding days where you walk away feeling like you didn’t just photograph an event, you were welcomed into a story that was already so full of love, history, and connection. Callie and Braxton’s Toca Madera Winery wedding was exactly that.
From the very beginning of our first call, it was clear that their priority wasn’t creating a performance of a wedding day. It was being fully present with the people they love most.
The beautiful thing about wedding photography is that no two couples need the same thing (and rarely do they even want the same thing!) Some couples want every minute documented with a carefully planned timeline, while others want space to breathe, soak it all in, and spend as much time as possible.
Callie and Braxton knew exactly what mattered to them: meaningful moments, genuine emotions, and getting back to their people as quickly as possible.
And that’s exactly what we created… while still getting “the shot” they wanted.
Getting Ready: The Calm Before the Celebration
The morning started with Callie surrounded by the women who have loved and supported her throughout her life. With hair and makeup by Britny Lee of Bnstylin and Emily Dudley of MUA Studio, the morning was filled with excitement, laughter, and those quiet moments of anticipation before everything officially began.
Before the guests arrive, before everyone is dressed up, and on “guard” of any photos taking place… It’s the deep breaths. The hugs. The nerves. The realization setting in of, “This is actually happening” when she flips the veil over for the first time.
Meanwhile, Braxton and his groomsmen were already getting ready at Toca Madera Winery, soaking in the anticipation of what was ahead.
From Callie stepping into her Jenny Yoo gown to Braxton putting on his Patrick James suit, every detail helped tell the story of who they were becoming as they stepped into this next chapter.
Family & Friends: The Moments in Between You Can’t Recreate
Throughout Callie and Braxton’s wedding day, I couldn’t escape the sentiment of how deeply loved they are.
When Callie’s siblings saw her, the emotions immediately took over. There were hugs, tears, laughter, and those incredibly genuine reactions that happen when someone you love is stepping into a huge life moment.
As much as I want to keep things moving on a wedding day, I believe the best thing a photographer can do is take a step back and see the moment for what it is.
Not every emotional moment needs direction, and that hug from Callie’s brother certainly couldn’t be recreated. At least not with her beaming like that, and him handing over the kleenex right after.
You don’t get any wedding moment back, but how much would it take away from the experience if even the small, meaningful ones were interrupted by someone pulling you away, repositioning you, or asking you to “do that again”?
My goal is always to document what is already there. To preserve the feeling of the day, not interrupt it.
A Winery Ceremony Filled With Emotion
The ceremony space at Toca Madera Winery was the perfect backdrop for Callie and Braxton’s vows. The green grassy aisle, the vineyard surroundings, and the natural California landscape framed their ceremony so beautifully.
Callie walked down the aisle with her dad, both of their eyes already filling with emotion as they approached the person waiting for her.
And then there was Braxton. One of my favorite images from the entire day was capturing him as he cried while seeing Callie for the first time. Every groom is unique, but selfishly, I like to see them get emotional. Beyond a compelling image, it gives me such better insight into their relationship and how they operate as a couple. It’s a testament to the depth of their relationship and the genuine connection they share. I love to see it!
There is something incredibly powerful about watching someone allow themselves to be fully vulnerable, especially in front of 150 guests and with a photographer standing nearby at the altar.
For this ceremony, I planted my second shooter in the far back on a zoom lens, and placed myself on a pivot in the front, opposite of Braxton, for maximum coverage! This way, the guests and bride and groom are the least distracted and disturbed by media on a wedding day, but we’re still able to get those up-close intimate shots without being intrusive.
Romantic Portraits: Creating Space for What Matters
One of the things I always talk about with my couples before their wedding day is that every relationship is different, and every couple deserves a photography experience that reflects who they uniquely are (as individuals, and as a couple!)
Some couples want a full 45-minute golden hour portrait session. They want to slow down, wander, and soak in that newlywed feeling. Maybe I’m trailing 30 feet behind them capturing wides!
Others want a few beautiful portraits together and then want to get right back to cocktail hour and their friends and family.
And both sound good to me!
After chatting with Callie and Braxton over multiple calls before their wedding day, hearing their preferences and dislikes, I knew exactly where their priorities stood. They wanted the classic close-up portraits, a few images showing the scale of the winery, some movement, and a little bit of that beautiful golden California light.
Then they wanted to escape for 5 minutes, and get back to their people (and who could blame them, they rock).
We moved intentionally, captured the moments that felt like them, chased that warm evening light, and then sent them running back to celebrate with everyone they loved.
Because sometimes the best wedding photo isn’t the one where you’re alone together. It’s the one where you’re surrounded by everyone who came to celebrate you.

A Reception That Didn’t Slow Down
Once the reception started, it was clear that this bride and groom came ready to celebrate.
I could barely keep up with them.
With rentals and styling from CT Rentals and Linen Shoppe, the space was transformed into the perfect setting for a night focused on celebrating with their favorite people. GTE Event Group kept the energy high, and the dance floor was full from the moment the party started.
The photos from the night truly speak for themselves.
There was nonstop dancing, huge laughs, and the kind of energy you only get when everyone in the room is genuinely excited to be there.
And of course, no celebration is complete without incredible food. Guests could grab a late-night bite from Taco Boys, enjoy milk from Rosa Brothers’ Milk Cart, and capture memories with plnbooth.
The night was exactly what a wedding reception should be: everyone you love, in one place, celebrating as loudly as possible.
